Duquesne University senior linebacker Mitchell Zobb (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Duquesne's 14-3 win at Saint Peter's on Saturday. The victory left the Dukes (6-0 overall) alone at the top of the MAAC with a 3-0 league mark.
Zobb, a two-year starter, tied for the team lead with nine tackles (six solo) and intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards in leading the Dukes to the victory. Duquesne's defense, currently ranked No. 1 nationally in NCAA Division I-AA, limited the Peacocks to 128 total yards, including minus four yards passing.
Zobb, who also was named to this week's ECAC Honor Roll, is currently tied for fourth on the team with 37 total tackles (19 solo). His seven tackles for loss (-10 yards) are tied for third-most on the team.
Duquesne (6-0, 3-0) hosts St. John's (1-4, 1-2) on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Rooney Field (Fox Sports Radio, WBGG-AM 970 locally and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com).
