Tyler Scudder, the former director of player personnel at Western Michigan, is in his fourth season as linebackers coach and third season as co-defensive coordinator.

 as coordinator, helped the Dukes rank 10th nationally in total defense in 2016. Linebackers Carter Henderson, Nathan Stone and Christian finished first, second and third in tackles as the Dukes held opponents to 314.1 yards per game. Kuntz, the first Duke to earn All-America honors three times at the FCS level, flourished under Scudder, finishing his career as the NEC's all-time sack leader with 30.5.
In 2015, Scudder helped oversee a Duquesne defense that ranked first in the NEC in scoring defense (19.2 ppg.) and second in interceptions (16) and rushing defense (135.8 ypg.). Kuntz, Stone and Sam Martello all earned All-NEC honors.
In addition to his coaching efforts at Duquesne, Scudder has led Duquesne's "Be the Match" Bone Marrow Registry Drive the past three springs. In tandem with Duquesne's women's soccer, swimming and lacrosse teams, the Dukes generated 777 registrants in 2017, which led the nation.
At Western Michigan, Scudder helped assemble a 2014 recruiting class that was ranked as the best in Mid-American Conference history by Rivals.com. Recruiting sites 247Sports.com and Scout.com also listed the WMU class as the best in the MAC.
Prior to accepting the position at Western Michigan, Scudder spent three seasons at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. While at IUP, he served as cornerbacks coach as well as the assistant recruiting coordinator. During his first season at IUP he worked as an assistant with both the linebackers and special teams. In 2012, he worked with an IUP defense that ranked first nationally in both scoring and total defense.
Scudder began his college coaching career at Plymouth State in 2009 where he was the wide receivers coach and special teams assistant. He began his coaching career as the co-special teams coordinator at Morgantown High School while he was attending West Virginia University.
He completed his degree in public relations from WVU in 2009.
Scudder, his wife Ashley and their son Owen reside in Pittsburgh.
