Mike Deitrick joined the Duquesne football staff in July 2017 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Allegheny College. Deitrick serves as the Dukes' running backs coach while also overseeing DU's recruiting efforts after working as an offensive quality control coach in his first season on The Bluff in 2017.
During the Dukes' historic season in 2018 in which Duquesne registered its fifth Northeast Conference (NEC)Â title, second Football Championship Subdivision (FCS)Â Playoff berth and first FCS Playoff win in program history, DU running back A.J. Hines was named an All-American by five difference organizations, a finalist for the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award for the top offensive player at the FCS level, NEC Offensive Player of the Year as well as First Team All-NEC.
Hines ranked third in the country in rushing yards and sixth in rushing touchdowns, posting a school-record six-straight 100-yard rushing performances, helping the Dukes to six consecutive wins during the second half of the season.
In addition, defensive back Daquan Worley moved to the offensive side of the ball to provide depth at the running back position, ranking second on the team with 352 yards to go with four rushing touchdowns. Worley finished with 96 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns in a win over Robert Morris before recording 73 yards on eight carries with a 48-yard touchdown run in the Dukes' 31-10 FCS Playoff victory at Towson. Â
While at Allegheny, he coached tight ends in 2015 and running backs in 2016. Â
A graduate of Clarion University, Deitrick was a four-year starter at tight end and senior captain for the Golden Eagles. He finished his career with 70 catches for 660 yards and six touchdown receptions. Following his senior campaign, he was selected to play in the 2014 National Bowl in Miami, Fla.Â
A native of Upper St. Clair, Deitrick was an all-conference performer at Upper St. Clair High School where he was a three-year letter winner in both football and basketball. Â
Deitrick graduated from Clarion in 2014 with a degree in business management with a minor in sports management.
