From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University men's soccer team concludes its 2026 regular season Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against La Salle at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa.

- The Dukes enter Saturday's game atop the Atlantic 10 standings with 18 points, two ahead of Saint Louis. A victory over the Explorers would secure the first A10 regular-season championship for Duquesne since 2005 and its first outright crown since 2004. The Dukes won three consecutive Atlantic 10 regular-season championships from 2003 to 2005, sharing the title with Richmond in 2003 and both Saint Louis and Rhode Island in 2005.

- A draw against the Explorers would secure at least a share of the 2026 A10 regular-season title for Duquesne. The Billikens travel to Davidson Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Wildcats in SLU's final regular-season game of 2026.

- The Dukes own an RPI of 62 after a 3-1 loss at Penn State (10/28) in their final non-conference game of the 2026 regular season. Sitting one spot ahead of Duquesne in the RPI rankings is Saint Louis (61). Sophomore Hákon Dagur Matthíasson scored a goal in his second consecutive game, converting from the spot in the second half for the Dukes against the Nittany Lions.

- Duquesne has won five consecutive games against Atlantic 10 foes, outscoring the opposition, 15-2, during that stretch. In their final home game of the regular season at Rooney Field, the Dukes earned a 3-0 victory over VCU (10/24).

- The victory over the Rams marked the second time under head coach Chase Brooks Duquesne reached double digits in goals in a three-game span, as the Dukes opened the stretch with a 3-0 win over Davidson (10/17) and followed with a 4-0 triumph at St. Bonaventure (10/21). The last time Duquesne turned the trick came in non-conference play in 2022 with a 2-0 win over James Madison (9/6), a 7-0 triumph over Howard (9/10) and a 1-1 draw at Wright State (9/13).

- In the win over VCU, the Dukes scored twice in the opening 20 minutes. Redshirt sophomore Jameson Michel scored a goal for the third consecutive game to open the scoring, finding the back of the net at 6:01 to give Duquesne an early lead with his fifth strike of the campaign.

- Sophomore Hákon Dagur Matthíasson gave Duquesne a 2-0 lead over VCU with his first goal of the year at 19:07, while junior Roni Badler closed out the victory on Senior Day with his second strike of the season at 87:18.

- Redshirt senior Jaxon Ervin is the active leading scorer at Duquesne with 30 points courtesy of nine goals and 12 assists. He has started 48 of his 58 career games on the Bluff over the last four seasons.

- In addition to scoring his first goal of the 2026 season in a 3-1 win over Dayton (10/10), Ervin also registered an assist. Ervin is one of six Dukes to register a game-winning goal this season, and his strike against the Flyers marked the second game-winning goal of his career.

- The Dukes are led by head coach Chase Brooks, who is in his 14th season leading the program in 2026. Brooks has compiled an overall record of 105-97-31 (.517) at Duquesne and is the program's all-time leader in coaching victories. In his 16th year as a head coach overall, Brooks has posted a mark of 127-103-40 (.544).

- Duquesne established a new program record with 11 consecutive wins at Rooney Field over the course of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, while its eight victories at home in 2024 is a school record. The Dukes own a mark of 37-6-7 (.810) over their last 50 games at Rooney Field dating back to the beginning of the 2021 campaign.

- The Dukes will return to Rooney Field to host a game in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second time in three years as well as the third time in the last five seasons. Despite the opponent to be determined, Duquesne will host Friday, Nov. 6, at 7:00 p.m.

Scouting the Explorers – La Salle has posted an overall record of 6-7-3 (.469) record during the 2026 season, including a 2-3-2 (.429) mark in the Atlantic 10 … The Explorers sit eighth in the conference standings with eight points, one ahead of VCU, St. Bonaventure and Loyola Chicago … Junior forward Gabe Faust leads La Salle in scoring with 14 points thanks to seven goals, while junior Toto Esquivel Meza owns 13 points courtesy of six goals and an assist … In his sixth season as head coach of the Explorers is Taylor Thames (Delaware '09) … Saturday marks the 25th meeting in the all-time series between Duquesne and La Salle, with the Dukes owning a 14-7-3 (.646) edge … Duquesne earned a 2-1 victory over the Explorers in the last meeting between the two programs, which came during the 2023 season at Rooney Field (10/28) … The victory for the Dukes in the last matchup was part of Senior Day, with midfielder Ask Ekeland registering a brace to power Duquesne to the win.

Did You Know? While Duquesne tallied 10 goals consecutive Atlantic 10 victories over Davidson (3-0), St. Bonaventure (4-0) and VCU (3-0), marking the first time since 2022 the Dukes have turned the trick, it's been almost 25 years since accomplishing the feat against conference foes. Duquesne closed out the 2002 regular season by scoring 15 goals in its final three games, including a 10-0 victory over Fordham (11/1), a 2-1 triumph over La Salle (11/3) and a 3-2 victory over St. Bonaventure (11/9), each of which came at Rooney Field.

Defensively Speaking – Despite a 3-1 setback at Penn State (10/28), Duquesne will search for its first Atlantic 10 play Saturday due in large part to its defense. The Dukes own a team goals against average of 0.73, which leads the Atlantic 10 and is tied for eighth in NCAA Division I with Georgetown of the Big East, while also ranking 10th in the country in save percentage (.825). The fulcrum for the Dukes has been redshirt senior goalkeeper Sam Coss, a two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week who has played all 1,350 minutes for the Dukes and sits 17th in NCAA Division I in goals against average (0.73) and 19th in save percentage (.814).

Level Up – Sophomore Hákon Dagur Matthíasson found the back of the net for the first time this season in a 3-0 triumph over VCU (10/24), giving the Dukes a 2-0 advantage in the first half. He is the 11th different student-athlete for Duquesne this year to score a goal and is one of 17 different players to register on the scoresheet through 15 games. Dagur Matthíasson is also one 13 players to have scored at least two points this year for the Dukes.

All In The Family – Looking to add to the lineage as a scorer on the Bluff has been forward Cody Da, who enters Saturday's game at La Salle pacing Duquesne in scoring with 13 points thanks to six goals and an assist. Da scored the final goal to seal a 4-0 victory at St. Bonaventure (10/21) and is the younger brother of former forward Jayden Da (2021-23), who in three seasons with the Dukes compiled 20 career points thanks to eight goals and four assists. The elder Da appeared in 46 career matches at Duquesne and was named to the 2023 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team after a campaign in which he finished with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Jayden Da was also the first student-athlete in program history to be selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft, presented by Adidas, when he was selected by the Columbus Crew with the 29th pick in 2023.

Tip of the Cap – Thanks to the performances for Duquesne in its first two games of the year, a pair of student-athletes garnered weekly honors from the Atlantic 10. Junior forward Marko Rasmussen was selected as A-10 Offensive Player of the Week (8/24), while redshirt senior goalkeeper Sam Coss was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week (8/24). Rasmussen scored a pair of goals in the win over Bowling Green (8/23) after entering this season with two goals in 26 career games on the Bluff. Coss, meanwhile, earned a pair of clean sheets in the first two games of the year, becoming the first Duquesne goalkeeper to turn the trick since 2022. Coss owns 48 saves through 15 games of 2026 and is a two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, having also earned the honor Sept. 21.

One – Since the beginning of the 2021 campaign, the Dukes own a record of 36-16 (.692) in one-goal matches. Included in that stretch is a 20-5 (.800) record in such games at Rooney Field and a 16-11 (.593) mark on the road.
