Wexford, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team won its second straight conference match, defeating St. Bonaventure 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club. With the win, the Dukes improved to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in the league action.
In doubles play, Duquesne secured the early point after taking two of three matches. At the top spot, senior
Kaya Rand and sophomore
Mila Badics captured a 6-3 win over Isabella Venter and Cirkeline Lundberg. Juniors
Taisia Yakunina and
Jasa Roka fell to Sienna Smith and Kashish Bote at the second spot while sophomores
Alexandra O'Brien and
Sofia Serrano won by forfeit at third doubles.
The Dukes kept its momentum into singles action, taking five of six matches. At the number one spot, Badics secured a 7-5, 6-3 win over Venter before Rand captured a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 over Lundberg at the two spot. At third singles, Yakunina fell to Smith, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 before O'Brien downed Bote 7-5, 6-2. Freshman
Denisse Arinez Guilarte and Serrano each won by forfeit.
UP NEXT
Duquesne returns to action Sunday, April 6, when it hosts Saint Francis for Senior Day. Opening serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
