PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University football program will host its annual NMDP "Get in the Game" bone marrow registry drive, formerly known as Be The Match, on campus this Wednesday, April 23.
Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2025
Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Locations: Academic Walk, the Union Atrium, and Hogan Dining Hall
Since launching the initiative in 2010, Duquesne football — with support from other Dukes athletic teams — has helped register more than 5,800 potential donors and facilitated 24 life-saving matches.
Recent donors include former football student-athlete Ayden Garnes and former women's soccer standout Bella DiFabbo. Garnes learned over the holidays that he was a match for a 27-year-old woman and, after consulting with his family, traveled to Boston to complete the donation procedure on Jan. 4, 2023.
Duquesne is one of more than 250 programs nationwide that participate in the "Get in the Game. Save a Life." initiative. The Dukes are marking their 16th year hosting the drive and were recognized nationally in both 2017 and 2018 for adding more members to the Be The Match registry than any other program in the country. The team has also been honored by the Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation at the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Convention for its impact.
