Philadelphia, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to three consecutive matches after capturing a 5-2 victory at Saint Joseph's on Sunday inside the Springton Tennis Club. With the win, the Dukes improved to 2-0 in conference play and 5-5 overall this season.
Duquesne would earn the early point in doubles competition, taking two of three matches. At the top spot, seniors
Mila Badics and
Kaya Rand secured a 6-1 victory over Wiktoria Czerny and Victoria Tracey while juniors
Jasa Roka and
Taisia Yakunina downed Addison Melfi and Gisele Tang, 6-4 in the two slot.
In singles play, the Dukes were able to capture four of the six matches to secure the victory. Badics tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tracey at first singles before Roka dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 decision to Czerny at the second position. At third singles, Rand dominated Melfi 6-1, 6-0 while Yakunina captured a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 win over Kordonowy at the fourth spot. In the final two singles positions, freshman
Denisse Arinez Guilarte lost 4-6, 2-6 to Tang before classmate
Sofia Lopez-Linares Perez downed Ocasio, 6-4. 6-1 in the final match.
UP NEXT
Duquesne is idle for a couple weeks before welcomes Cleveland State to the Oxford Athletic Club on Sunday, March 23 for a non-conference match.
