BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Duquesne senior kicker
Matt Clark has been named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week after drilling a pair of clutch fourth-quarter field goals, including a game-winning 33-yarder as time expired in the Dukes' season-ending win at Robert Morris.
NEC RELEASE
Clark tied the game at 17 with a 34-yard field goal with just over eight minutes remaining before knocking through the winner at the buzzer. It marked Duquesne's first game-winning field goal as time expired since Charlie Leventry's 31-yarder at Sacred Heart on Nov. 14, 2009.
The Easton, Pa., native added a 2-for-2 effort on PATs for an eight-point day and recorded a touchback, finishing the season with 19 — the most by a Duke since Austin Crimmins totaled 21 in 2015.
This is Clark's second Special Teams Player of the Week honor this season. He also earned the award after scoring 13 points (3-for-3 field goals, 4-for-4 PATs) at Mercyhurst. He becomes just the third Duke since joining the NEC in 2008 to win the honor multiple times in one season, joining Crimmins (three times in 2014) and Leventry (twice in 2011).
Duquesne has claimed Special Teams Player of the Week four times this season, the most in the conference and the second-highest total in program history (five in 2014).
Running back
Ness Davis was also named an NEC Prime Performer after rushing for a career-high 179 yards on 25 carries (7.2 yards per carry). It marked his fifth 100-yard game of the season and his fourth NEC weekly recognition.
Duquesne closes the year with 11 Players of the Week and 15 Prime Performers.
