Charlottesville, Va. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team kicked off its 2025 schedule on Wednesday, dropping a pair of matches at #9 Virginia. The Dukes dropped back-to-back 7-0 matches and are 0-2 on the season.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early point after taking all three doubles matches. Senior

Sofia Serrano dropped a 6-3 match to Sara Ziodato and Meggie Navarro.
In singles competition, Virginia secured the match after taking all six matches. At the first slot, Badis fell to Xu, 6-2, 6-1 before Roka lost o Sara Ziodato 4-6, 6-0, 10-7. In the third singles, Rand was handed a 6-2, 6-3 loss from Collard while O'Brien got dealt a 6-2, 6-1 defeat from Genis Salas. In the final two positions, Serrano was blacked by Blanca Pico Navarro, 6-0, 6-0 while freshman

SECOND MATCH vs. #9 VIRGINIA
In the second match, the Cavaliers secured the doubles points, taking all three doubles sets. Rand and O'Brien fell 6-1 to Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie Collard in the first slot while Yakunina and Serrano dropped a 6-1 decision to Karolina Kozakova and Sara Ziodato. In the final slot, Lopez-Linares Perez and Arinez Guilarte lost to Meggie Navarro and Nicole Kiefer, 6-0.
In singles competition, Virginia secured the match by winning all six singles contests. Roka fell 6-0, 6-0 to Chervinsky in the top slot while Badics fell 6-0, 6-0 to Ziodato. In the third singles, Rand lost to Kozakova 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 before O'Brien dropped a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 to Collard in the four spot.
