Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's golf team opened play in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational Sunday at Millcreek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio. The Dukes are tied for eighth with Le Moyne out of 13 teams after posting a 315 in the first round.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
Host Youngstown State owns the top of the leaderboard after Sunday's action, carding a 292 (+4). The Penguins sit five strokes ahead of Purdue Fort Wayne (297) and seven in front of Indiana State (299). Western Michigan (300) is in fourth place, followed by Bucknell (301), Cleveland State (304) and Eastern Illinois (312). Trailing the Dukes and Dolphins after the opening day of competition is Detroit Mercy (325), Mercyhurst (326), Niagara (328) and Saint Francis U (331).
BUHL PARK
Freshman
Sasha Petrochko is leading Duquesne after the first round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, as she fired a 72 Sunday to sit at even par and in a tie for eighth individually with Petra Babicová of Kent State, who is playing as an individual, and Sophia Bardunias of Bucknell. Petrochko, the first
Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week of the 2024-25 season, produced her second round at par this season and Sunday posted a pair of birdies on the front nine and three overall. She rallied after posting a bogey on holes three and four while also opening the back nine with a bogey on No. 10.
INDIVIDUALITY
Petrochko will enter the final round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational just three strokes off the lead atop the individual leaderboard. Kaitlin Kormuth of Cleveland State finished at 69 (-3) Sunday, while Valentina Pena Anay of YSU posted a 70 (-2). A quartet of student-athletes also fired a 71 (-1) during the opening round of action.
THE LINEUP
Junior
Lindsey Powanda and freshman
Paige Meyers each handed in a 79 (+7) Sunday for their respective first rounds of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, with Powanda opening with a 39 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. Meyers, meanwhile, turned the corner with a 38 and finished with a 41 on the final nine holes. Each of the pair finished with one birdie Sunday and enter Monday's action tied for 35th individually. UP NEXT
The final round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational tees off Monday at 9:30 a.m. from Millcreek Golf Course. Each of the groups will go off the first hole, with Meyers beginning action for the Dukes at 12:57 p.m., as she's paired with Lauren Williams of Le Moyne.
