Pittsburgh, Pa. – Freshman
Sasha Petrochko of the Duquesne University women's golf team was honored after her NCAA Division I debut, as she was named the first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week of the 2024-25 season.
Petrochko, a native of Hermitage, Pa., earns the first rookie weekly accolade of the year as the A-10 office took into account the opening two weeks of action.
At the Bucknell Fall Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., where Duquesne made its
debut as an NCAA Division I program, Petrochko helped lead the Dukes to
eighth place out of 13 teams by garnering the first top 10 finish of her career.
In carding a 223 (+13) across 54 holes at Bucknell Golf Club, Petrochko tied for eighth individually with Madison Pineda and Reese Hannon, who each compete for Lehigh. Petrochko opened with a 76 in the first round, finished at even par in the second day of action with a 70 and closed with a 77 in the final round.
Petrochko finished with six birdies throughout the course of the tournament, including three each in the first and second rounds. Her first career birdie came on the sixth hole of competition, a par five. During the Bucknell Fall Invitational, half of Petrochko's six birdies were posted on a par five, including on the ninth hole in each of the first and second rounds.
As a team, Duquesne closed at 944, just nine strokes behind a top five finish. Led by head coach
Colleen Meyers, the Dukes continue their 2024 fall season Sunday, Sept. 22, with the first of two rounds at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational in Boardman, Ohio. The event is hosted by Youngstown State at Millcreek Golf Course.
