Clements and Miller Earn NEC Player of the Week Nods; Afful Tabbed Prime Performer

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. -- JaMario Clements and Luke Miller headlined the Northeast Conference (NEC) Week 3 Awards, announced this Monday by the conference office. Clements ran for a career-high 204 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown to earn Offensive Player of the Week, while Miller racked up 14 tackles (eight solos) collecting Rookie of the Week and co-Defensive Player of the Week honors. Wide receiver Tedy Afful also caught two touchdown passes in the win over No. 20 Youngstown State and was tabbed an NEC Prime Performer.

Clement's 204 yards were the most in a game by an FCS player versus a Division I opponent this season and most by a Duke since A.J. Hines totaled 213 on November 10, 2018 at Sacred Heart. The redshirt junior out of Lafayette, Ga. rattled off two runs of 70+ yards and averaged 17.0 yards per carry. His first long run went for 72 yards and set up the first touchdown of the game for DU, then he broke off a 75-yard scamper into the endzone with 1:40 remaining in the game which turned out to be the deciding score in the Dukes' 28-25 win. Clements was also named an honorable mention Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week for his standout performance.

Miller, a local product out of Pine-Richland High School, charted the most tackles in a game by any NEC defender this season on Saturday with 14. The sophomore linebacker has racked up 23 tackles (14 solos) and a TFL through three games in his first season of action. Eight of Miller's 14 tackles at YSU came in the second half.

Afful recorded his second career two-score game with a touchdown grab on back-to-back offensive possessions, putting the Dukes within three at the half (17-14) and ahead (21-14) with 1:21 to play in the third quarter. The senior wide receiver from Bloomfield, N.J. finished with a career-high seven receptions and 56 yards through the air. Afful had a pair of 15-yard grabs in the win and snagged four catches on the third-quarter drive to take the lead.

The Dukes picked up their second win over a ranked FCS opponent in program history with a 28-25 triumph at No. 20 Youngstown State on Saturday in a rematch of the 2023 FCS Playoffs opening round. It was also the first win over YSU in seven matchups. Duquesne was named an honorable mention Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week in recognition of the win.
