From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University women's soccer team opens a three-game road trip in search of its fourth consecutive win Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. match against Saint Francis U in Loretto, Pa., at Stokes Soccerplex.

- The Dukes wrapped up a perfect 3-0 homestand at Rooney Field in their last outing, a 4-2 victory over Kent State. Junior forward Brianna Moore scored a pair of goals and an assist to help bolster Duquesne.

- Thanks to nine points (four goals, assist) in a pair of wins last week, Moore was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week. Moore is the second member of the Dukes to garner the honor in 2024, joining class teammate Margey Brown.

- Duquesne enters Thursday's game atop the Atlantic 10 leaderboard in a number of categories. In addition to being tied for first with Dayton in goals with 20, the Dukes also pace the circuit in scoring average (4.00 goals per game), scoring margin (+2.80) and shots (114).

- Among NCAA Division I leaders, Duquesne is tied for second in scoring offense with Auburn, Florida State and Indiana as well as tied for fifth in points per game (11.00). In addition, the Dukes rank third in the country in shots on goal per game (12.80) and seventh in shots per contest (22.80).

- Junior forward Margey Brown is the first student-athlete in program history to score a goal in five consecutive games to open a season as she enters Thursday's match against the Red Flash leading the Atlantic 10 in goals (7), points (18) and points per game (3.60). Brown leads NCAA Division I in points per game and is also fifth in the country in both total goals and points. Karlie Lema of California tops NCAA Division I in total points with 24 in eight matches.

- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.

- A total of 10 different Dukes have scored in the first five matches of the 2024 season. In addition to the offensive exploits of junior forward Margey Brown, junior forward Brianna Moore has nine points, while redshirt freshman forward Hailey Longwell and junior forward Mackenzie Muir have each scored eight. Longwell owns four goals, while Muir has scored twice and has tallied four assists.

- Duquesne heads to Youngstown, Ohio, Sunday, Sept. 15, for a 1:00 p.m. match against Youngstown State after taking on SFU Thursday. The Dukes will also open up their Atlantic 10 slate at Richmond (Sept. 19) during their road swing.

Scouting the Red Flash – Member of the Northeast Conference (NEC) … located in Loretto, Pa. … Saint Francis U is led by Brian Diaz, who is in his first year as head coach after being named in June of 2024 … Diaz spent the last seven years as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Oakland … The Red Flash enter Thursday's match with a 2-2-2 record, including wins over Niagara (August 15), 2-1, and Robert Morris (August 29), 1-0 … In its last match, SFU dropped a 2-0 decision at Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 4) … Senior midfielder Laure Pyle paces the Red Flash in scoring with four points thanks to goals against RMU and in a 1-1 tie with Cleveland State (Sept. 1) … Pyle owns 11 shots, including five on goal, with Saint Francis U paced in the categories by junior forward Raine Korpics with 11 and eight, respectively ... Duquesne leads the all-time series with SFU, 14-7-1 (659), after a 2-0 win last season at Rooney Field that featured goals from Lindsay Krafchick and Maya Matesa.

Picking Your Spots – Junior midfielder Mackenzie Muir has been a key component for Duquesne in the early going of the 2024 season directing the offense yet is able to find the space in the right spot to get her shot off. One of five student-athletes tied for second in the Atlantic 10 in assists with four, joining junior forward Margey Brown, Muir has taken 10 shots through five games, nine of which have been on goal. Her shot accuracy of 90 percent leads NCAA Division I along with Sydney Clarke of Mount St. Mary's, who owns three goals on 10 shots, nine of which have also been on goal.

Historic Pace – The offensive explosion that began with three goals in the 2024 season opener, a 6-2 win over Mercyhurst, has junior forward Margey Brown on a historic pace this year. She is just two points shy of becoming just the seventh player in program history to score at least 20 points in a season and the first since former forward Katie O'Connor scored 20 points in both 2016 and 2017. O'Connor, not surprisingly, is the program's all-time leader for goals (25) while ranking second in points (67). Brown enters Thursday's match at SFU with career totals of nine goals, eight assists and 26 points.

Hey, Junior – The offensive outburst from Margey Brown early this season has vaulted her atop the roster as Duquesne's active leader in points (26), but she is part of a junior class that is putting up some prolific numbers as a group. Thanks to Emma Hospodka picking up her first two career points with a goal in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, she is part of a class that has combined for 110 points over the last three seasons courtesy of 39 goals and 32 assists. In addition to the 26 points for Brown, forwards Brianna Moore and Maya Matesa are the program's active career leader in goals (10) and own 23 and 22 points, respectively, and midfielder Mackenzie Muir is the active leader in assists (9) and has scored 21 points.
