PITTSBURGH -- The Duquesne University women's cross country/track and field program had five student-athletes -
Haley Hamilton,
Hannah Seitzinger,
Madelyn Moretti,
Sadie Wetzel and
Liv Wilson - named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team, announced by the organization this afternoon.
Hamilton, Seitzinger and Moretti all qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships this season - the first Dukes to do so since 2016, while Wetzel and Wilson ranked among the top in the region during indoor season. Seitzinger was denoted as a CSC Academic All-America® finalist and will advance to the national ballot.
A senior from Pittsburgh, Hamilton owns a 3.84 GPA in the physician assistant studies program. The NCAA qualifier in the 3000m steeplechase ranked 50th in the East Region with a season-best 10:25.41 in a gold-medal run at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships. The personal and season-best time ranks fourth on the Duquesne all-time leaderboard. Hamilton PR'd in four of five steeplechases this year and was a bronze medalist at the A-10 Outdoor Championships for the third consecutive season. Hamilton also collected an A-10 bronze medal at the indoor championships in the 1000m and led the Dukes finishing 38th at the NCAA East Regional in cross country with a time of 20:58.0.
Seitzinger maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA this spring majoring in physician assistant studies. The senior from Belle Vernon, Pa. was 39th in the East Region and 72nd nationally in the 800m this outdoor season with a school-record time of 2:04.92. An NCAA qualifier, Seitzinger also won the IC4A/ECAC gold medal and Atlantic 10 silver medal in the 800m. Seitzinger was named to both the Atlantic 10 indoor and outdoor all-academic team's this season. Seitzinger won her third straight 500m gold medal at the conference indoor championships and set new program records in the indoor 500m and 800m this winter.
Moretti, a sophomore nursing major from Madison, Ohio, claimed a spot on the Academic All-District Team with a 3.84 GPA. Moretti was the first-ever Duke to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in shot put this season. Selected as the Atlantic 10 Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer at the outdoor championships, Moretti reset her own school record five times this season finishing with a season-best 15.53m (50' 11.5") at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, which was 44th in the East Region and 89th nationally. Moretti won gold at both the IC4A/ECAC meet and Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, while earning silver in discus. During indoor season, Moretti ranked ninth in the Mid-Atlantic region for shot put and was a bronze medalist at the A-10 Indoor Championships.
A senior health administration major from Latrobe, Pa., Wetzel holds a 3.67 GPA. Wetzel was an A-10 silver medalist in high jump at both the indoor and outdoor championships. The IC44A/ECAC Indoor gold medalist, Wetzel tied the indoor program record with a clear of 1.73m (5' 8") this season, then moved into a tie for second all-time with an outdoor-best 1.70m (5' 7") at the conference outdoor meet. The indoor PR ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 122nd nationally this winter.
Wilson boasts a 3.71 GPA as a senior in the physician assistant studies program. A native of Hershey, Pa., Wilson ranked 39th in the Mid-Atlantic Region during indoor season with a season-best 2:13.01 in the 800m. Wilson, who was an IC4A/ECAC qualifier in the 800m for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, was the lead leg on the gold-medal winning 4x800m relay team at the A-10 Outdoor Championships with a school-record 8:50.27. With a new personal-best in the 800m during outdoor season (2:10.80), Wilson now sits fifth all-time at Duquesne.
Hamilton and Seitzinger are Academic All-District Team members for the second straight year, while Moretti, Wetzel and Wilson all have earned their first nod.
To be eligible for the Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must meet strict academic and athletic criteria. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and be in the top 50 of the TFRRS regional rankings for an individual event or finish top 50 in the NCAA regional race for cross country.
