Men's Tennis Sweeps Saint Francis on Senior Day

Dukes honor four seniors prior to the match

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's tennis team ended its two-match skid by sweeping Saint Francis, 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh while celebrating Senior Day. With the victory, the Dukes improve to 7-8 overall this season.

In doubles competition, Duquesne secured wins in the final two slots to take the opening point. seniors Kaipo Marshall and Tamirlan Teberikov fell by a 7-6 (7-3) count to Mathis Tremblay and Tyler Nguyen in the first position. Graduate student Jin Dassanayake and senior Bode Vance would down Marc Fuste and Gregory Troyan 6-4 before sophomores Keita Duclos and Alfrendo Vogelaar secured a 7-5 win over Alan Gonzales and Kevin Kruzel.

The Dukes would take control during singles competition, sweeping all six matches to secure the senior day victory. Marshall came back to capture a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Fuste in the first spot before Teberikov won by default in the second slot. At third singles, Duclos tallied a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Gonzales while Vogelaar won by retirement at the four spot. In the final two singles positions, Dassanayake registered a 6-0, 7-5 win over Kruzel before Vance dropped Troyan, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

SENIOR SEND OFF
The Dukes honored four seniors prior to today's match while thanking them for their contributions to the program. Jin Dassanayake, Kaipo Marshall, Tamirlan Teberikov, and Bode Vance were all celebrated this afternoon.

UP NEXT
Duquesne hits the road when it travels to Dayton, Ohio for three matches in three days from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13. The Dukes will square off against Saint Louis on Thursday before battling host, Dayton on Friday. Duquesne will end the trip by taking on St. Bonaventure on Saturday. All three matches will be played at the Graul Tennis Complex at Dayton.
