Dukes Down Carnegie Mellon, 4-3

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's tennis team closed its two-game homestand, downing Carnegie Mellon, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh. With the win, the Dukes improve to 5-2 this spring.

In doubles competition, the Tartans secured the point, taking two of the three matches. Seniors Tamirlan Teberikov and Bode Vance dropped a 4-6 decision to Akshay Joshi and Derek Wong in the first spot. At the second position, Kaipo Marshall and graduate student Jin Dassanayake fell by a 3-6 count to Daniel Kong and Raghav Jangbahadur while sophomores Keita Duclos and Alfrendo Vogelaar captured a 6-4 victory over Nicholas Wernink and Theodore Gershon in the final spot.

Duquesne turned it around in singles competition, taking four of the six matches. In the number one spot, Marshall captured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jangbahadur while Teberikov fell by a 1-6, 6-2, 1-6 score to Motaghedi. At third singles, Wernink wont by retirement over Duclos as Vogelaar secured a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wang at the fourth spot. In the final two spots, Dassanayake downed Joshi 6-4, 6-2 before Vance tallied a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) win over Irkar in the final spot.

Duquesne hits the road when it travels to Davison, N.C., to battle Queens on Saturday, March 2, at Davidson tennis courts.
