Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team travels to Chicago, Ill., for its first true road game of the 2024-25 campaign Friday with a 9:00 pm. ET tip against DePaul at Wintrust Arena.

- The Dukes are coming off a 75-68 setback against Princeton (11/8/24) as part of the Jersey Jam in a game that was played in Trenton, N.J., at CURE Insurance Arena. The Tigers closed the game on an 18-8 run over the final 4:20 of action to secure the victory.

- Junior guard Kareem Rozier paced Duquesne against Princeton with 14 points and also added four assists, three rebounds and three steals, while senior forward Jahsean Corbett finished a rebound shy of a double-double thanks to 13 points and nine caroms.

- Also reaching double figures in scoring against the Tigers was junior forward David Dixon, who scored 11 points to go along with four rebounds and three blocks. Dixon enters Friday's game 12 blocks shy of 100 for his career.

- The 2024-25 season marks the 109th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Duquesne, which has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1971 & 1972, is looking to record three consecutive 20-win campaigns for the first time since finishing with four straight 20-win seasons from 1952 to 1955. The Dukes are also 14 wins shy of 1,500 as an NCAA program.

- The active leading scorer for Duquesne is junior forward David Dixon, who has scored 400 points since the beginning of the 2022-23 season. Junior guard Kareem Rozier, meanwhile, has scored 339 career points on the Bluff.

- In three seasons with the Dukes, Rozier has handed out 161 assists against 64 turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.52.

- The Dukes return home to the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse after taking on the Blue Demons Friday, hosting Milwaukee Tuesday, Nov. 19, in a 7:00 p.m. tip.

At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 109-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024. Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent two seasons as associate head coach for the Dukes under Keith Dambrot from 2022 to 2024, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Scouting the Blue Demons – BIG EAST member ... located in Chicago, Ill. ... Friday marks the 30th meeting in the all-time series, with DePaul leading, 15-14 (.517) ... A total of 27 of the 29 meetings occurred between 1939 and 1991 ... The Dukes and Blue Demons split a home-and-home series over the course of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons ... In the last meeting between the two programs Dec. 14, 2022, Duquesne earned a 66-55 victory at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse ... The Dukes never trailed, building a pair of 10-point leads before a 9-0 run extended the cushion to 34-21 at halftime ... It marked Duquesne's first win over a BIG EAST foe since 2002 ... The trio of guards Dae Dae Grant (15) and Jimmy Clark III (13) and forward Joe Reece (15) combined for 43 points in the victory ... The Blue Demons are led by Chris Holtmann, who is in his first year as head coach ... Holtmann earned his 250th career victory as DePaul defeated Mercer, 95-64, to improve to 3-0 on the season ... Fifth-year guard Isaiah Rivera, who has spent time at Colorado and UIC, leads DePaul in the early going in scoring at 16.7 points per game.

Princeton Leftovers – The Tigers lead the all-time series, 4-2, and have won three consecutive games against the Dukes ... Princeton converted 58.3 percent (14-of-24) of its shots in the second half and finished at 43.4 percent (23-for-53) overall ... Duquesne knocked down 41.4 percent (24-for-58) of its attempts from the floor ... The Dukes built an 11-point lead, 42-31, after a pair of free throws from forward Jahsean Corbett with 13:16 left ... Duquesne owned a 26-24 edge in points in the paint ... Despite going 0-for-10 from the field, guard Maximus Edwards was true on both of his attempts at the free-throw line and chipped in seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Depth Charge – A total of five different Dukes have scored in double figures in the first two games of the 2024-25 season, proving the length the lineup owns. The only student-athlete for Duquesne to score at least 10 points in both games this season is forward Jahsean Corbett, who finished with 13 against Princeton after providing 12 in the season opener against Lipscomb. Corbett has opened his career with the Dukes by converting an even 50 percent (10-for-20) of his shots from the field and owns 73 career double-figure scoring games to his credit at the NCAA Division I level.

Fast Forward – Jahsean Corbett has been a key component for a Duquesne frontcourt that has opened the 2024-25 season with solid play. Combined with junior David Dixon and sophomore Eli Wilborn, the trio have shot 57.9 percent (22-for-38) from the floor to open the year. Dixon contributed 11 points against Princeton while Wilborn finished with six points, five rebounds and a pair of rejections in just nine-and-a-half minutes against the Tigers. Wilborn has opened his career at Duquesne by converting seven of his first 10 shots (70%) from the field. The trio are a big reason why the Dukes have averaged 32.0 points in the paint in their first two contests of the year.

David On The Block – Junior forward David Dixon ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 last year with an average of 1.62 blocks per game and also finished the year with 38 of the 83 dunks (45.8%) for Duquesne. Dixon is just 23 dunks shy of becoming the second member of the Dukes on record with 100 to his career credit. The most in program history is Damian Saunders, who rattled the rim 166 times during his career from 2008 to 2011. In addition, Dixon is just 12 rejections shy of 100 career blocks after registering three against Princeton. Dixon has averaged 1.33 blocks per contest in his 66 career games on the Bluff.

The Leader – Junior guard Kareem Rozier posted his first double-figure scoring effort of the year against Princeton with 14 points while also handing out four assists against just one turnover. In the early going of the 2024-25 season, Rozier owns a 3.00 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is tied for eighth in the Atlantic 10 with Posh Alexander of Dayton.

Offensive Spark – Each of the three double-figure scorers for the Dukes in their 2024-25 season opener against Lipscomb are newcomers who played their first game in a Duquesne uniform. Guard Tre Dinkins III scored a team-high 16 points off the bench, while guard Maximus Edwards added 14 and forward Jahsean Corbett 12. Combined, the five newcomers that made their debut in a Duquesne uniform against the Bisons produced 69.4 percent (50-of-72) of the offensive output for the Dukes.
