From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University women's soccer team returns home to Rooney Field looking to snap a two-game slide Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. match against Saint Louis.

- Fordham scored twice in a four-minute span and three times overall in the first half en route to a 3-1 win in the last outing for the Dukes. Junior forward Maya Matesa scored on a header for Duquesne, her second goal of the season, off a corner kick from junior forward Margey Brown.

- The Dukes concluded a three-match homestand prior to falling to the Rams with a 2-1 setback to Dayton, their first loss at Rooney Field during the 2024 season.

- The Flyers scored twice in under three minutes with less than five minutes to go in the first half to hold a 2-0 advantage at the break. Redshirt freshman Hailey Longwell got Duquesne on the board in the second half, registering her fifth goal of the campaign at 84:03.

- Thanks to a penalty kick from junior forward Mackenzie Muir, the Dukes earned a 1-0 win over Rhode Island. It marked the fourth goal of the season for Muir.

- The Dukes enter Sunday's game against the Billikens ranked in the top 30 in NCAA Division I in a variety of categories, including 10th in shots on goal per game (9.33), 14th in shots per contest (19.17), 25th in scoring offense (2.42) and 28th in points per game (6.92).

- For the third consecutive match, Sunday's tilt against SLU features three of the top scorers in the Atlantic 10. For the Billikens, senior forward Emily Gaebe is tied for second in the conference in goals with eight, joining junior forwards Margey Brown and Brianna Moore as well as Liina Tervo of Fordham. Noel Blain of Dayton leads the A-10 in goals with nine.

- Juniors Mackenzie Muir and Brianna Moore, along with Emily Gaebe of Saint Louis, are three of seven student-athletes in the Atlantic 10 so far this season that own three game-winning goals, which is tops in the conference. Junior forward Margey Brown ranks third in the circuit in points with 21, Gaebe ranks fifth for the Billikens with 19, while Moore sits sixth with 18.

- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.

- Eleven different Dukes have scored in the first 11 matches of the 2024 campaign, with the junior class having accounted for 68 of Duquesne's 84 points (81.0%).

- Three of the final four games of the 2024 regular season for Duquesne come on the road. The Dukes travel to Philadelphia, Pa., Saturday, Oct. 12, for a noon match at La Salle after taking on SLU.

Scouting the Billikens – Located in St. Louis, Mo. … Sits in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 standings with Loyola Chicago and VCU thanks to eight points … The Billikens sit two points ahead of Rhode Island, La Salle, Davidson and Duquesne, as each have six points … Led by Katie Shields, who has compiled an overall record of 159-60-21 (.706) career record in 12 seasons as head coach at Saint Louis … Shields was named the 2018, 2019 and 2022 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year … Senior forward Emily Gaebe paces the Billikens in scoring with 19 points courtesy of eight goals and three assists … Duquesne is 4-12 (.250) all-time against Saint Louis, with its last win in 2021, a 3-1 triumph at Rooney Field.

Back In The Saddle – Junior Margey Brown snapped a five-game scoreless streak when she set up fellow classmate Maya Matesa for Duquesne's goal at Fordham, as her corner kick led to a header that found the back of the net. It pushed Brown's season total in points for the 2024 season to 21, tops for the Dukes. Thanks to the assist Brown has cracked the top five in the Duquesne single-season record book for points, as she is tied with Lauren Bracco, who scored 21 points during the 2003 campaign.

Split The Difference – Junior forward Mackenzie Muir notched her fourth goal of the 2024 season in a 1-0 victory over Rhode Island, scoring on a penalty kick at 67:25. Muir, who scored five points during Duquesne's three-game homestand thanks to two goals and an assist, has scored each of her four goals this season at Rooney Field. That's a stark contrast to her previous four career markers, which all came on the road during her rookie campaign in 2022. Duquesne owns a record of 7-1 (.875) over the last three seasons when Muir finds the back of the net. In addition, six of her eight career markers have been game-winning goals.

Tag Team – The offensive explosive exploits of junior forwards Margey Brown and Brianna Moore have the duo on the cusp of joining some exclusive company at Duquesne. Thanks to season totals of 21 and 18 points, respectively, Brown and Moore are looking to become just the second duo in program history to reach the 20-point threshold in the same season. During the 2004 campaign, forwards Audra Mathews (27), a freshman, and Katie Schwager (23), a senior, combined for 50 points, the most by a duo in a season in school history. Mathews registered eight goals and 11 assists, while Schwager tallied nine goals and five helpers.

Hey, Junior – Margey Brown and Brianna Moore are at the head of a junior class for Duquesne that is putting up some prolific numbers as a group. Thanks to Emma Hospodka picking up her first two career points with a goal in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, she is part of a class that has combined for 134 points over the last three seasons thanks to 47 goals and 40 assists. Moore is the program's active leader in both goals (14) and points (32), while Brown sits second with 29 career points. Midfielder Mackenzie Muir, meanwhile, is the program's active career leader in assists (11) and has scored 27 points, while forward Maya Matesa has tallied 26 points thanks to 11 goals and four assists.
