Pittsburgh, Pa. – Fordham scored three times in the first half Thursday, including two goals in under four minutes, en route to a 3-1 victory over the Duquesne University women's soccer team in the Bronx, N.Y., at Moglia Stadium. In dropping their second consecutive game, the Dukes dipped to 8-4 (.667) overall during the 2024 campaign, including 2-3 (.400) in the Atlantic 10.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
For the second straight game an opponent struck twice in under five minutes, this time with the Rams converting in the opening 15 minutes of play. Both markers came courtesy of Ryann Lucas. She opened the scoring with a header from eight yards out off a corner kick from Lena Johnson at 10:28 and just a second under four minutes later gave Fordham (8-3-2 | 3-1-1 Atlantic 10) a 2-0 cushion by scoring on a penalty kick. Senior
Mackenzie Leeder was called for the foul leading to the shot from the spot, with Lucas converting. Duquesne was only able to muster one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes, which came from sophomore
Kayla Leseck at 32:42 and was turned away by Addison Green of the Rams.
IT'S COMING BACK AROUND AGAIN
Duquesne was able to get on the board in the second half thanks to junior forward
Maya Matesa, who took a feed off a corner kick from her fellow classmate,
Margey Brown, to provide a header that got past Green at 62:46. It marked the second goal of the season for Matesa, who led Duquesne last season with 15 points (7 G, 1 A). The Dukes tried to close their gap further, with junior
Mackenzie Muir getting a pair of good looks with under 10 minutes go, but both shots went left.
