Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game Sunday, falling to Saint Louis at Rooney Field, 5-0. The Dukes slipped to 8-5 (.615) overall, including 2-4 (.333) in the Atlantic 10.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
For the second consecutive match an opponent found the back of the net three times in the opening 45 minutes of play, and for the third straight game an opponent registered a pair of goals in under five minutes. Sunday's offensive exploits came courtesy of Emily Gaebe, who scored twice in the span of 2:57 to become the Saint Louis all-time career leader for goals. Her first marker came at 6:00, as she fired a shot that found the lower left of the goal past senior goalkeeper
Maddy Neundorfer. Just a shade under three minutes later, Gaebe again scored. Elise Le found Lyndsey Heckel, who placed a perfect pass to Gaebe, who unleashed a shot that found the upper right hand corner of the goal. It marked the 41st and 42nd career goals for Gaebe, helping her move past Jamie Perry (2001-04) atop the career record book for the Billikens.
PENALTY KICK
Saint Louis added its third marker at 12:57. Neundorfer was issued a yellow card in the box, giving Saint Louis (7-1-5 | 3-0-2 Atlantic 10) a penalty kick. Heckel was chosen to take the shot, and she scored from the spot to help the Billikens open up a 3-0 advantage.
ATOP THE LIST
The record breaking day for Gaebe continued in the second half, as she registered her third goal of the contest at 52:25 to extend the lead for Saint Louis to 4-0. Prior to the goal, Gaebe had been tied atop the career records at SLU for career points with Hanna Friedrich (2018-22), but her third marker of the contest helped her become the program's all-time leader in points with 107. SLU capped the scoring at 85:05, with Jordan Gary finding the back of the net thanks to an assist from Rylee Howard.
