Dukes Snap Three-Game Slide at La Salle

Longwell scores in second half, Neundorfer notches fifth shutout of year

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday, picking up its first Atlantic 10 road victory of the 2024 season with a 1-0 triumph over La Salle in Philadelphia, Pa., at McCarthy Stadium. The Dukes improved to 9-5 (.643) overall, including 3-4 (.429) in the A-10.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Having been outscored, 10-2, during its three-game skid, the Duquesne defense put forth a valiant effort in logging its first road victory in almost a month. Outshot in the first half, 8-3, the Explorers placed seven shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer stood tall, turning each away in nearly matching a season high in saves in the opening 45 minutes. Neundorfer also came up big late, turning away a shot by Ella Cadigan with under two minutes to play, her 10th save of the contest. It marks the second time during Neundorfer's four years on the Bluff she has reached double digits in saves in a match, trailing only the career-high 12 she registered in a 3-2 win over Rhode Island at Rooney Field Sept. 15, 2022.

THE ONE
The Dukes came out on the attack to open the second half, peppering three shots in the opening eight minutes. Hailey Longwell fired a shot that was turned away by La Salle (7-3-5 | 2-2-3 Atlantic 10) goalkeeper Michela Auguadro, but her second found the back of the net. Taking a feed from junior forward Maya Matesa, Longwell was able to scoot one past Auguadro at 52:40, finding the low right of the goal and giving Duquesne a 1-0 edge. It marked the sixth goal of the 2024 season for the redshirt freshman forward.
