Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team earned its first national ranking of the 2024 season from United Soccer Coaches Tuesday,
entering the poll at No. 24. The Dukes are one of six programs that have entered the poll this week, while another receiving votes (North Carolina State) returns to the poll for the first time since September at No. 23.
Duquesne, with an overall record of 9-2-1 (.792), received 12 points in the eighth poll of the 2024 season from United Soccer Coaches. West Virginia (8-0-3) moved up three spots to take over No. 1, earning 200 points and eight first-place votes, with Stanford (8-1-3), Marshall (8-1-2), Pittsburgh (10-3-0) and Ohio State (9-1-2) rounding out the top five.
The Dukes enter the national rankings by United Soccer Coaches after their second win in program history against a ranked opponent, as a goal from senior forward
Maxi Hopfer with 17 seconds remaining on a feed from redshirt sophomore defender
Blaize Hardy lifted Duquesne to a
2-1 victory at No. 13 George Mason. The win was the first for the Dukes against a ranked foe on the road as well as its first since a
3-1 triumph over No. 23 Rhode Island Oct. 20, 2018, at Rooney Field.
Duquesne is ranked for the first time in just over two years, as the Dukes were ranked No. 25 with an 8-1-3 (.792) overall record Oct. 11, 2022. It marked the last of three weeks during the 2022 season Duquesne was ranked, which included a tie for No. 25, Sept. 20, 2022, as well as No. 24 a week later.
Led by
Chase Brooks, who is in his 12th season as head coach of the program, the Dukes return home to host Davidson Saturday, Oct. 19, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Duquesne is 6-0 at Rooney Field this season and has won nine consecutive at home dating back to last year.
