PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University women's track and field team had competitors at the Penn Relays, in Philadelphia, and the Red Flash Open, in Loretto, Pa, this week.
PENN RELAYS
Haley Hamilton ran the second-fastest time of her career with a 10:43.02 finishing in 19
th place in the 3000m steeplechase Thursday evening.
The 4x400m relay team, featuring
Alyssa Willis,
Mara Whalen,
Faith Mucci, and
Amy Allen, posted the fifth-fastest time in school history with a season-best 3:45.61 in seventh place Saturday evening. The quartet qualified for the finals with 3:54.18 in second place of their heat on Friday.
RED FLASH OPEN
A dominating field effort by the Dukes was highlighted by meet victories in the hammer throw (
Ezra Johnson-Mills) and shot put (
Madelyn Moretti) on Saturday. Duquesne totaled four first-place finishes overall in Loretto.
Johnson-Mills, a junior from Belle Vernon, Pa., threw a personal-best 48.69m, also the second-longest mark in DU history, to take the hammer throw crown.
Serena Lalli (41.76m) came in fourth and
Rachel Koonmen followed in eighth with a 34.44m.
Moretti recorded a long of 13.86m claiming the top spot in the shot put, Koonmen took second with a 12.88m shot put, and
Emily Brozeski marked a 12.38m in fourth.
Sophomore
Liv Wilson won the 800m race with a personal-best 2:15.07, her second straight PR run in the 800m.
Delaney Line (2:18.69),
Ryley Schwalm (2:18.94), and
Kathryn Saum (2:19.07) finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
Sophomore
Kaylin Cousin was the first to cross the finish line in the 400m, sprinting a 58.36
A pair of personal-best times were set in the 100m hurdles by juniors
Jamelah Carswell and
Halle Walcutt. Carswell ran a 15.08 in second place, while Walcutt posted a 16.09 in fifth. Walcutt also charted a 35.36m discus throw taking fourth.
Freshman
Eva Leatherman (1:08.09) and junior
Anna Baxter (1:08.91) finished second and third in the 400m hurdles.
Junior
Kiki Thornton claimed third in the 1500m race with a 5:00.41. Senior
Kierra Shreffler followed in seventh recording a 5:09.30.
Junior
Ally Christy ran a 11:15.95 leading a trio of Dukes in the 3000m race, taking sixth. Senior
Hannah Dieterle crossed the line just under two seconds later (11:17.42) in seventh, and freshman
Sophia Trevenen posted an early career-best 11:33.58 in ninth.
