PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's track and field team competed at the Benson/Hodge Memorial Invitational, hosted by Robert Morris University, on Saturday at the P3R Track & Field Complex in Pittsburgh.
The Dukes won eight events facing off against competitors from RMU.
Freshman
Eva Leatherman (1:08.68) and junior
Anna Baxter (1:10.77) crossed the line first and second in the 400m hurdles.
Seniors
Tori Kocsis (10:25.40) and
Hannah Dieterle (11:10.11) finished one and two in the 3000m race.
Sophomore
Liv Wilson (4:49.46) and senior
Laura Ehrenberger (4:57.36) claimed the top two spots in the 1500m.
Sophomore
Mara Whalen placed first in the 800m with a 2:14.10. Junior
Haley Hamilton was right behind in second with a 2:17.64. Freshmen
Ryley Schwalm (2:20.58) and
Kathryn Saum (2:21.46) set personal bests in the race, and senior
Kierra Shreffler rounded out the Dukes in seventh with a 2:30.95.
Junior
Sadie Wetzel went over 1.63m to win the high jump. Junior
Jamelah Carswell (1.58m – 5' 2 ¼"), freshman Kirsten Lavallee (1.53m – 5' ¼"), and junior
Halle Walcutt (1.43m – 4' 8 ¼") placed second, third, and fifth, respectively.
Carswell earned another silver finish in the long jump with a 5.17m (16' 11 ½").
Megan Penrod won the javelin with a personal-best 39.11m (128' 4") mark on her fourth attempt.
Junior
Ezra Johnson-Mills claimed the top spot in the women's hammer throw with a 46.90m (153' 10") on her first throw of the day. Fellow juniors
Serena Lalli and
Rachel Koonmen took second and fourth with a 45.85m (150' 5") from Lalli and a personal-best 39.55m (129' 9") by Koonmen.
Koonmen went back to work competing in the shot put and won the event with a long of 12.27m (40' 3 ¼").
Walcutt (35.88m – 117' 8") and Mills (34.54m – 113' 4") came in second and third, respectively, in the discus throw.
Junior
Alyssa Willis ran a 12.23 placing second in the 100m, then finished in the same spot in the 200m charting a 25.57 to pace three Dukes in the race. Sophomore
Amy Allen (25.87) came in fourth and freshman
Brooke Kirstein (29.15) finished seventh.
Allen led five Dukes in the top-10 of the 400m race with a 57.17 in second. Sophomores
Kaylin Cousin ran a 58.59 in third and
Faith Mucci came in fifth with a 59.82, while
Delaney Line (1:02.58) and Kirstein (1:06.43) finished seventh and ninth in their first-career 400m races.
Duquesne will travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays starting Wednesday and running though Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania.
