PITTSBURGH -- The Duquesne University football team had seven players named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team, announced by the organization this afternoon.
The seven Dukes included graduate students
Michael Dorundo,
Ezekiel M. Daure,
Logan Lutz, and
Jason Sweeney, as well as juniors
Jordan Heisey,
Nick Leopold, and
Ethan O'Neil.
To be eligible for the distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in at least 90 percent of the institution's games or start at least 66 percent of the games.
Center
Michael Dorundo holds a 3.68 GPA in finance and was a second-team all-conference selection on the field this season. Dorundo will represent the Dukes on the Academic All-America® ballot, which will be voted on and announced Jan. 23, 2024.
Daure maintains a 3.60 GPA as an English major and appeared in 12 games across the defensive secondary and special teams this season, while snagging one interception.
Lutz played in all 12 games and made one start at tight end recording three catches. The Grove City, Pa. native has a 3.59 GPA in Marketing.
Sweeney made five tackles and played all 12 games primarily on special teams, while posting a 3.77 GPA as a marketing major.
Heisey was the holder for the DU field goal and PAT operation this season, which went 47-for-53. In the classroom, the Health Sciences major has a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Leopold, out of Murrysville, Pa., emerged as the top punt returner for Duquesne this season with 10 runbacks totaling 62 yards. As an Education (Grades Pre-K through 4) major, he sustains a 3.60 GPA.
O'Neil, an offensive lineman from Pittsburgh, competed in all 12 games on the line and holds a 3.97 GPA in the Physician Assistant Studies program on the Bluff.
This is the second straight season that the Dukes have had seven student-athletes represented on the All-District list, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Duquesne (7-5, 6-1 NEC) won its sixth Northeast Conference (NEC) championship and made its third appearance in the FCS playoffs this season.
