PITTSBURGH – Duquesne men's soccer, which returns eight starters from last year's Atlantic 10 runner-up team, will open the 2022 season at Michigan on August 25 as part of the
2022 schedule released today.
DU will also play games at national powers Akron (Sept. 28) and Pitt (Oct. 17) in nonconference play.
The Dukes, who are in their 10th year under head coach
Chase Brooks, will follow the Michigan game with a trip to Canisius (Aug. 28) and a short jaunt to Robert Morris (Aug. 31), before opening at home with back-to-back games against James Madison (Sept. 6) and Howard (Sept. 10).
DU heads to Wright State on Sept. 13, before beginning the Atlantic 10 slate against first-year conference member Loyola Chicago on Sept. 17 on Rooney Field.
Duquesne will then play three more on the road with conference games at UMass (Sept. 24) and George Washington (Oct. 1) sandwiched around the Akron game.
The Dukes will play four of their seven home games in October when A-10 opponents Saint Joseph's (Oct. 5), St. Bonaventure (Oct. 12), Davidson (Oct. 15) and Fordham (Oct. 22) visit Rooney Field.
October conference road games include at George Mason (Oct. 8) and at La Salle (Oct. 29) in addition to nonconference games at Pitt (Oct. 17) and at VMI (Oct. 25).
The top eight regular-season finishers will compete at the Atlantic 10 Championship with opening round games at the sites of the top four finishers on Nov. 4 & 5. The championship will conclude with semifinal and final games on the campus of the team with the highest remaining seed on Nov. 9 & 13.
Duquesne will play a pair of exhibition matches prior to the season: vs. West Virginia (Aug. 12) and at Detroit Mercy (Aug. 17).
2022 SCHEDULE QUICK NOTES
- The Dukes will play 10 nonconference and eight Atlantic 10 Conference games as part of the 18-game schedule. The Oct. 12 St. Bonaventure will not count as an Atlantic 10 game (it will be a nonconference meeting).
- Duquesne will play seven matches at home and 11 on the road. Six of the seven home games will start at 7:00 p.m. with the lone exception being the Wed., Oct. 12 game vs. St. Bonaventure which will start at 6:00 p.m.
- DU will face members of eight conferences - including Power 5 members Michigan and Pitt - in non-league play: Akron (Mid-American), Canisius (Metro Atlantic), Howard (Northeast), James Madison (Colonial), Michigan (Big 10), Pitt (Atlantic Coast), Robert Morris & Wright State (Horizon) and VMI (Southern).
- With the addition of Loyola Chicago, the 14-team Atlantic 10 will maintain an eight-game schedule. The top eight teams will qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship with first round games at the campus site of the highest seed on Nov. 4 & 5, with the highest remaining seed hosting the semifinal and final on Nov. 9 & 13.
