Late Strike Sinks Dukes at Davidson

Freshman Alex Posada collects first career NCAA Division I goal for Duquesne

White Marsh, Md. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team wrapped up the road portion of its 2025 regular season Saturday, falling to Davidson, 2-1, in Davidson, N.C., at Alumni Soccer Stadium. The Dukes slipped to 8-5-2 (.600) overall during the 2025 campaign, including 2-5-0 (.286) in the Atlantic 10.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Tied, 1-1, and time winding down, the Wildcats were able to strike at 81:57 for the game-winning goal. From the midfield, Nicholas Alvaro Zeballos placed a ball that got behind the defense, with JP Ramos Mora tracking it down. Racing down the near side into the box, Ramos Mora slipped a pass to the opposite side, with Brady McGlone connecting and sending the ball into the far right bottom of the net and a 2-1 lead for Davidson. The Wildcats were able to stretch their winning streak to six, which is the longest for the program since 2009.

BATTLING BACK
Davidson (8-5-2 | 4-1-2 Atlantic 10) grabbed the early advantage, 1-0, at 37:39 thanks to Alvaro Zeballos, which connected for his second goal of the year on an assist from Myles Culley. Duquesne was able to garner the equalizer less than five minutes later and just before halftime. Off a corner kick, the Wildcats tried to clear, but sophomore midfielder Bendix Bennetzen corralled the ball off a header and fired a shot that was blocked. The ball bounced right to freshman Alex Posada, who unleashed a rocket that found the upper right corner of the goal over a diving Lucas Beltran to tie the contest, 1-1, at 42:18. It was the first NCAA Division I goal for Posada, who became the 10th different student-athlete for Duquesne to find the back of the net this year.
