Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2025 schedule Tuesday, earning a 1-0 victory in Highland Heights, Ky., over Northern Kentucky at NKU Soccer Field. In securing its eighth win of 2025 and improving to 8-4-2 (.643) overall this year, the Dukes clinched their fifth consecutive winning season.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Scoreless after 45 minutes of play, the Dukes broke through early in the second half for the only goal of the contest. Fresh off his first goal of the year in a
3-2 victory over George Washington (10/18) at Rooney Field, sophomore
Marko Rasmussen fooled his defender on the far side not once but twice to get inside the box before slipping a pass through five other defenders in front of the net. The ball hit one of the defenders but kept rolling to senior
Ashton Jell, who was open on the near side. Jell lifted a shot that NKU goalkeeper Landon Barth was able to get a hand on, but it sailed into the upper right corner of the net at 52:44. Picking up a secondary assist on the goal was sophomore midfielder
Dan Banks, who provided a long outlet pass to Rasmussen.
STRETCHING THE LINEUP
Inserted into the starting 11 for Duquesne Tuesday was redshirt senior
Pepo Bravo as well as junior
Daman Sangha, who each started their second game of the 2025 campaign. Each of the pair logged a full 90 minutes for the Dukes, joining midfielder
Bendix Bennetzen and defenders
Luke Fiscus and
Alex Posada. Bennetzen led Duquesne in shots with three in a contest that was short in the category, with the Dukes notching 10, three of which were on goal, while the Norse posted six, just three of which were on target. The defensive effort made a winner out of redshirt senior goalkeeper
Diego Chavez, who posted three saves in collecting his sixth shutout of the season.
