PITTSBURGH -- Duquesne volleyball head coach
Steve Opperman announced the addition of
Alexis Ritson as an assistant coach Wednesday.
"We are very excited to welcome Alexis to the Duquesne Family," said Opperman. "It's a homecoming of sorts, as she grew up in the Greensburg area and played collegiately at Geneva College. We look forward to Alexis bringing her volleyball knowledge, ball control expertise, defensive prowess and analytical tactics to our program."
"I cannot wait to get to work with the Dukes close to home in Western PA this fall," said Ritson. "I want to thank
Steve Opperman for the opportunity to learn from and help him and the whole staff as we continue to move the volleyball program forward."
Ritson comes to Duquesne after spending two years at Southern Arkansas as a graduate assistant coach. During her time with the Muleriders, she coached two 2020 All-GAC Second Team honorees (Morgan Gross, Morgan Schuster) as well as a 2021 All-GAC Honorable Mention (Schuster).
Before Southern Arkansas, she spent one year at SUNY Morrisville as an assistant coach. She helped lead the Mustangs to a 23-8 overall record, a perfect 11-0 conference record, a third-straight NEAC title and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. Four of her student-athletes were named to NEAC all-conference teams that year, including Megyan Merrill (first team), Sam Wolf (first team), Amelia Baratier (second team) and Kirsten Florio (third team).
Prior to her stop at SUNY Morrisville, Ritson spent a year on the sidelines at Geneva following her career with the Golden Tornadoes as a libero and defensive specialist. As assistant coach, Ritson was responsible for practice planning, scouting, summer camps and maintaining academic oversight over the student-athletes on the squad.
For two seasons prior to Ritson's stint with Geneva, she served as the head coach of the Infinity Volleyball Club in Ohio, coaching 18 National, 17 American and 14 American levels.
Ritson earned her bachelor of arts degree from Geneva in sociology in 2017 with a minor in business and math.
