NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Duquesne University freshman
Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and five others received postseason honors, as the league announced its major awards and all-conference teams Wednesday morning.

In addition to being voted the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Rodriguez-Shaw earned Second-Team A-10 All-Conference Attack and A-10 All-Rookie Team honors.

Alana Piano (Brockport, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) was selected First-Team A-10 All-Conference Midfield and earned a nod on the A-10 All-Academic Team.

Defenders
Kaitlin Rice (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and
Maggie Flynn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) joined Rodriguez-Shaw as Second Team A-10 All-Conference selections. Rice also added A-10 All-Academic honors to her laurels.

Joining Rodriguez-Shaw on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team were both
Sam King (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) and
Mackenzie Leszczynski (Flourtown, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh).

Rodriguez-Shaw was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year after leading the Dukes and ranking sixth in the league with 42 goals. The four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week also dished out a team-high 11 assists and slotted eighth in the league with 53 points. Rodriguez-Shaw ranks third on the team with 40 draw controls and is second in the A-10 with 4.50 shots on-goal per game.

The Massachusetts native started all 16 games for the Dukes and scored a goal in 14 of those starts, including a season-high six versus George Mason. Rodriguez-Shaw will enter the postseason tournament on an 11-game scoring-streak.

She is the first Duke to earn a major conference award since Amanda Kidder earned Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year in 2014 and the first A-10 Rookie of the Year from Duquesne since Lib Lowry in 2013.

Piano earned First-Team A-10 All-Conference and All-Academic honors after she led the A-10 and ranked third in Division I with 2.62 caused turnovers per game. She also ranked second in the country with 3.44 ground balls per game. Only Gardner-Webb's Danielle Burke (3.50) is currently averaging more ground balls per game. Piano also slots ninth in the A-10 with 3.25 draw controls per game.

The team captain earned a nod as the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week in each of the final three weeks of the regular season. An excellent two-way player, Piano is fourth on the team with 31 goals, second with eight assists and tied for second on the Dukes with 39 points.

Rice earned her first postseason honors of her career with her inclusion on both the Second-Team A-10 All-Conference and All-Academic Teams. The standout defender started all 16 games and slotted sixth in the league with 1.31 caused turnovers per game and is second in the A-10 and 12
th in Division I with 3.00 ground balls per game.

Flynn also collected her first-ever Atlantic 10 honor after being named Second-Team All-Conference. A strong presence on the Duquesne backend, Flynn started all 16 games and ranks fourth in the A-10 with 1.38 caused turnovers per game and is 10
th in the league with 1.94 ground balls per game.

Both King and Leszczynski joined Rodriguez-Shaw on the A-10 All-Rookie Team. King, who was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday, is third on the team and 11
th in the league with 36 goals. Meanwhile, Leszczynski is a one-time A-10 Defensive Player of the Week who is fifth on the Dukes with 20 goals and 24 points. She also ranks second on the team with 43 draw controls.

The four Dukes earning first and second team all-conference honors is the most by the program since the 2016 season when four players earned First-Team A-10 All-Conference awards.

The Dukes have had three-straight seasons with multiple A-10 All-Academic Team selections with the inclusion of Rice and Piano on 2022 honor roll. To be nominated for the Atlantic 10 All-Academic teams, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.

It is the sixth time in program-history that Duquesne placed three players on the A-10 All-Rookie Team, and the first time since 2014. The Dukes also had three players selected to the All-Rookie Team in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012.
