NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Duquesne lacrosse team collected a pair of Atlantic 10 weekly awards for the third-straight week, as Alana Piano (Brockport, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) and Sam King (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) were named the A-10 Defensive and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced the league office Monday.
 
Piano closes out the regular-season with her third-straight A-10 Defensive Player of the Week laurel. She finished with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and eight draw controls in the team's 20-12 win at St. Bonaventure Saturday. Piano also chipped in four goals and added one assist in the victory.
 
Piano has risen to third in Division I with 2.62 caused turnovers per game this season. She also slots second in the country with 3.44 ground balls per game. Piano has ranks ninth in the A-10 with 3.25 draw controls per game.
 
King earned her first A-10 Rookie of the Week honor after leading the Dukes offensively in the win over the Bonnies. She scored a career-high five goals and chipped in an assist to help Duquesne secure the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship in Massachusetts.
 
King ranks third on the team and 11^th in the Atlantic 10 with 36 goals this season. She is converting 57.1 percent of her shots, which ranks 20^th in Division I and third in the Atlantic 10.
 
King's award marks the third-straight week that a Duquesne freshman has won the rookie honor. Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw was named the weekly winner the past two weeks.
 
The awards are the eighth and ninth weekly honors earned by Duquesne players this season, which led the league.
 
Duquesne opens play at the 2022 A-10 Championship on Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m. when it takes on Davidson in a first round game. The winner of the opening round game will take on top-seed UMass in the quarterfinals the following day. All A-10 Championship games will air on ESPN+.
