PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's tennis team collected a 7-0 sweep over Mercyhurst (D2) on Senior Day at the Alpha Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes (7-8) got off to a strong against the Lakers (6-7) start behind three wins in doubles play.
Margot Pessy and
Daniela Latoni got the day going with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, before seniors
Meredith Lee and
Priyanka Mitta clinched the point with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 position.
Lee opened up singles play with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Ellen Shanahan picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles, before a three-set win by
Margot Pessy at No. 1 singles cliched the match. Pessy defeated Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean 7-6 (10-3), 4-6, 6-3.
Latoni,
Natasha Novak and Blanca Benet Garcia each won their matches in straight-sets to complete the shutout for the Dukes.
The team honored Lee and Mitta prior to the match and recognized their contributions to the program.
The Dukes will travel to Saint Joseph's on Friday, April 8 around 1:30 p.m.
