MIAMI – The Duquesne University women's tennis team was defeated by both St. Thomas University and Boston University to open the team's spring break trip Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Dukes (4-6) were knocked off 5-2 by St. Thomas (NAIA) on their home courts in Miami Gardens on Tuesday, before falling to Boston U 6-1 at the FIU Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

Despite getting a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles from
Ellen Shanahan and
Ana Utrilla Benito, St. Thomas managed to pull out the other two positions to take the doubles point.

Daniela Latoni scored for the Dukes in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Carme Ibanez at No. 5 singles, but St. Thomas earned wins at the other singles matches to deal Duquesne the 5-2 loss.

The following day the Dukes took on Head Coach
Vanessa Steiner's alma mater BU, where they were handed a 6-1 loss.

Latoni notched her second win in as many days with a 6-4, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Sydney Sharma at No. 5 singles to close out the match.

Duquesne wraps up its spring break trip on Friday, March 11 when it takes on Atlantis University in Miami at 10 a.m.
