Men's Tennis Knocks Off Bonnies in A-10 Opener

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne men's tennis team collected a 6-1 win over St. Bonaventure in its Atlantic 10 opener late Friday night at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Dukes (6-6, 1-0 A-10) earned the doubles point behind wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Jin Dassanayake and Kaipo Marshall opened the evening with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, before Alex Mascioli and Joey Matthews clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Wins in each of the first four singles decisions helped Duquesne secure the conference win. Mascioli clinched a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal's 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position pushed the Dukes one point away from the victory.

"The men's team came out with tons of energy and won the doubles point convincingly," Head Coach Vanessa Steiner said. "Alex and Alejandro set the tone in singles with two quick wins to put the team up 3-0."

Dassanayake clinched the win with his decisive 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to put the Dukes in the win-column to open league play.

The Dukes are back on the court on Sunday, March 27 when they host Dayton at the Alpha for a match at 1 p.m.
