Box Score PITTSBURGH - Duquesne (10-2-4, 4-0-3) got goals from
Ask Ekeland (15') and
Jacob Casha (17') in battling to a 2-2 draw with Fordham (3-2-9, 1-1-5) on Saturday.
With the result, the Dukes extended their home unbeaten streak to a new school record 15 games (5-0-2 this year). It is the first time in program history that DU has gone back-to-back seasons without a home defeat.
The Dukes scored on their first two shots, with Ekeland's goal coming on a well-struck free kick from 30 yards out. The goal was the team-high eighth for the DU freshman.
Two minutes later,
Maxi Hopfer found Casha in front of the net as the Dukes went up 2-0.
Fordham, still in contention for one of eight Atlantic 10 Championship spots, made it a one-goal game in the 26th minute, and tied it in the 47th minute.
Duquesne, which dropped one point behind first-place Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 standings, has clinched an Atlantic 10 Championship first round home game for the first time in program history.
Opening round dates and times will be announced by the A-10 at the conclusion of the regular season.
DU concludes the A-10 regular season at La Salle on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fordham spent considerable time in the attacking third early.
- Ask Ekeland put the Dukes up 1-0 on a free kick struck solidly from 30 yards out in the 15th minute.
- Jacob Casha potted a cross from Maxi Hopfer two minutes later to put the Dukes up 2-0.
- Ekeland and Casha's goals came on DU's first two shots.
- Fordham's Florian Deletioglu put a header just left of the net in the 20th minute.
- The Rams pulled to within one on a Timo Hummrich goal in the 26th minute.
- Fordham outshot Duquesne 15-5 in the opening half.
- DU keeper Domenic Nascimben had eight saves in the opening 45.
- Fordham tied it just two minutes into the second half on a goal by Daniel D'Ippolito.
- The Rams' Time Hummrich put a free kick from 18 yards out just over the crossbar with three minutes left.
- Hopfer put a shot on net in the final minute for DU.
- Fordham finished with a 27-12 advantage in shots (12-8 on net).
- Goalkeeper Domenic Nascimben had 10 saves - including eight in the first half - for Duquesne.
