PITTSBURGH - Duquesne lacrosse head coach
Corinne Desrosiers recently announced that seniors
Maggie Flynn (Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley),
Alana Piano (Brockport, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) and
Kaitlin Rice (Ellicott City, Md. / Mt. Hebron) will serve as team captains for the 2022 campaign.
"We are excited about it these three and their ability to lead our team this spring," Desrosiers said. "Good captains are great teammates first, and they have displayed this over the fall consistently. This senior class was our staff's initial freshman group, so this is a full-circle moment for our program. Looking forward to a fun spring with these athletes out in front for us!"
Piano has started all 26 games of her Dukes career at midfield, tallying 10 goals, two assists, 46 ground balls, 30 caused turnovers and six draw controls in three seasons. A 2019 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection, Piano had seven points including six goals to go with 31 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers in her debut season on The Bluff. She is coming off a hat trick performance in the 2021 season finale at La Salle, her second three-goal performance of her career.
Flynn has started 15 of 20 career games at Duquesne, tallying 11 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. She registered a career-best four caused turnovers and three ground balls in a win over Canisius as a sophomore in 2020. She added a trio of ground balls in an A-10 matchup with Saint Joseph's last season.
Rice has started 15 straight games for the Dukes, ranking second on team with 23 ground balls last season while sitting third with 11 caused turnovers. In her first three seasons at Duquesne, she has compiled 35 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers on defense for the Dukes. Rice finished with season-high five ground balls to go with two caused turnovers in a conference victory over La Salle in 2021.
Duquesne opens the 2022 season against new cross-city foe Pitt in the Panthers' inaugural game on Friday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. at Highmark Stadium in Station Square.
