PITTSBURGH - Duquesne's
Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa. / Avon Grove),
Hanna Everhart (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area) and
Clare Flanagan (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) each earned CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolades, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
The Duquesne trio was named to the District 2 Team which encompasses schools from Pennsylvania along with Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.
The Dukes had the most at-large selections in NCAA Division I District 2, the most of any institution in the Atlantic 10 Conference as well as the most for one institution's individual sports team.
This marks the first CoSIDA Academic All-District® nod for all three Duquesne swimmers. The Dukes are three of four swimmers selected to the District 2 Team in addition to student-athletes who compete in fencing, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse and rifle.
Brinton, Everhart and Flanagan were each recently named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team for women's swimming and diving while Brinton also garnered her fourth-straight College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America accolade.
Brinton graduated with a 3.76 cumulative GPA as a Physician Assistant Studies major at Duquesne. She took home school-record 14 career medals at A-10 Championships, winning four medals at the 2021 A-10 Championship including gold in the 200 IM & 400 IM. Brinton collected three career gold medals in both the 200 IM & 400 IM, becoming first Duquesne swimmer to win three career A-10 titles in the same event.
A U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200 IM, she recently competed in the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Brinton is a two-time CSCAA Academic All-American and was named the 2018 A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.
Everhart has compiled a 4.00 GPA as a Physician Assistant Studies major. She took home five medals at the 2021 A-10 Championship in the 100 free, 200 free, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay & 800 free relay to help Duquesne to second-place finish. The Bloomsburg, Pa. native has recorded 10 career medal-winning performances at her first three career A-10 Championships and also owns three school records.
Flanagan posted a 3.94 GPA as a Biomedical Engineering major on The Bluff. She earned a bronze medal in the 200 back at 2020 A-10 Championship before scoring in the 200 back with an 11th-place showing and the 100 back with a 14th-place finish at 2021 A-10 Championship.
She completed a National Science Foundation internship at the University of Florida in 2019 where she developed a new way to detect cancer cells via a patient's blood samples in addition to entering several NASA projects over the last few years with fellow Duquesne student-athletes.
Brinton, Everhart and Flanagan will now be included on the national Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America, with the Academic All-America® Team to be announced on Friday, August 6.
