NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Five student-athletes from the Duquesne swimming and diving team garnered a spot on the 11-member Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference Team, league officials announced on Thursday afternoon.
Seniors Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio / Rocky River) and Carson Gross (York, Pa. / York Suburban), juniors Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) and Clare Flanagan (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) as well as sophomore Hanna Everhart (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area) were each named to the Academic All-Conference squad. This marks the second time in three seasons that the Dukes have earned five Academic All-Conference nods. Duquesne has landed at least four student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference Team five times (2001, 2007, 2018, 2019, 2020).
Devorace and Gross each collect their third-straight Academic All-Conference selection, while Brinton is now a two-time honoree. Flanagan and Everhart are both first-time Academic All-Conference picks.
Brinton has compiled a 3.84 grade point average as Physician Assistant Studies major. She earned gold in the 800 free relay & bronze in bronze in the 200 IM with an NCAA 'B' cut time at the 2020 A-10 Championship. She has now collected 10 medals at A-10 Championship in three seasons and is a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American. In addition, she finished fifth in 200 back, ninth in 400 IM at 2020 A-10 Championship. She also achieved Olympic Trial cut time in 200 IM at Toyota U.S. Open Championship.
Devorace has posted a 3.96 GPA as a Speech-Language Pathology major. She won a gold medal in the 800 free relay and bronze in the 500 free at 2020 A-10 Championship. The senior finishes her career with seven medals at the 2017-20 A-10 Championship meets. Devorace added a sixth-place mark in 200 yard free for Duquesne at the 2020 Championship. She owns school records in both the 500 free and 800 free relay.
Gross has recorded a 3.98 GPA as a Finance major at Duquesne. She took home a silver medal in 500 free with a school-record time at the 2020 A-10 Championship. She also finished with gold in the 800 free relay, fifth in the 200 free, sixth in the 100 free, sixth in the 200 free relay, sixth in the 400 free relay and seventh in the 400 medley relay at 2020 A-10 Championship. The senior was a nine-time A-10 medalist at the 2017-20 A-10 Championships. Gross owns a school record in 800 free relay.
Flanagan owns a 3.93 GPA in Biomedical Engineering. She earned a bronze medal in the 200 back at the 2020 A-10 Championship and finished eighth in the 100 back to go with a 20th-place finish in the 200 IM at the A-10 Championship. In addition, the junior won the 100 back in Dukes' win over Saint Francis U.
Everhart has registered a 4.00 GPA as a Physician Assistant Studies for the Dukes. She won gold in the 100 free, 200 free and 800 free relay at the 2020 A-10 Championship. The sophomore notched a school record in the 200 free with her performance at SPIRE. Everhart owns additional school records in the 800 free relay and the 400 medley relay. She also placed fifth in the 50 free as well as sixth in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay for Duquesne.
