Five Dukes Earn A-10 Postseason Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Five Duquesne lacrosse players garnered Atlantic 10 postseason accolades as part of the league-wide postseason awards announced on Wednesday.
 
Junior midfielder Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md. / Century) and sophomore defender Sydney Reed (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) earned First Team All-Conference honors, freshman midfielder Alana Piano (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport) was named to the All-Rookie Team while senior midfielders Courtney Battles (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) and Sarah Kollhoff (Exton, Pa. / Downington) each garnered All-Academic Team laurels.

Honorees were selected by a vote of the A-10's head coaches while the All-Academic Teams were chosen by the league's sports information directors.

Hart has stuffed the stat sheet this spring for Duquesne this season, leading the Dukes in draw controls (111), caused turnovers (41), ground balls (55) while sitting second on the team in goals (44). She closed out the regular season first in the A-10 in draw controls, second in caused turnovers, third in ground balls and sixth in goals scored.

Hart (2.56) and Reed (2.5) rank sixth and seventh in the country, respectively, in caused turnovers per game. Reed also sits second on the team with 41 ground balls on the year.

Piano has started all 16 games during her rookie campaign, scoring five goals to go with an assist, 30 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers for the Dukes. She netted a hat trick against George Mason to go with goals in wins over St. Bonaventure and Penn State.

Battles, a biomedical engineering major, ranks fourth on the team with 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists) while recording 23 draw controls. Her nine free position goals are tied for seventh in the conference.

Kollhoff, an elementary education major, is fourth on the team with 27 goals on the season while ranking in the top three on the team with 57 draw controls, 37 caused turnovers and 57 draw controls.  

Saint Joseph's Francesca Donato was named Offensive Player of the Year, Richmond's Julie Ball the Defensive Player of the Year, UMass' Stephanie Croke the Midfielder of the Year, George Mason's Deanna Balsama the Rookie of the Year while George Mason's Jessica Morgan and UMass' Angela McMahon shared Coach of the Year honors.

Duquesne opens the A-10 Championship against No. 3 seed Richmond on Thursday at 4 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
