Dukes Round Out Regular Season With Pair of A-10 Victories

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Duquesne men's tennis team closed out the 2018-19 regular season with a trio of Atlantic 10 matchups in the City of Brotherly Love over the weekend, defeating Saint Joseph's 4-3 as well as La Salle 6-1 while the Dukes were edged 4-3 by George Mason.

On Friday against the Hawks, Duquesne secured the doubles point with wins by the duo of Dane Bendel and Alejandro Rodriguez at the No. 3 position followed by a victory by Jared Isaacs and Alex Mascioloi at No. 1 doubles.

After SJU knotted the contest at 1-1, Isaacs regained the lead for the Dukes with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles. The Hawks evened it up at 2-2, followed by Drew Akins' come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. a resilient SJU team tied it up once again at 3-3 before Mascioli clinched the match victory with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles for Duquesne.

On Saturday against George Mason, the Dukes got off to another strong start as the doubles duos of Isaacs/Mascioli (7-5) as well as Bendel/Rodriguez (6-4) earned the doubles point for DU.

In singles competition, Isaacs (6-1, 6-1) and Rodriguez collected victories, but the Patriots picked up four singles victories to slide past the Dukes by a score of 4-3.

In Duquesne's regular season finale on Sunday at La Salle, the Dukes once again gained the momentum early as Isaacs/Mascioli picked up their third doubles win of the weekend at the No. 1 slot while Conron and Rodriguez claimed a 6-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

Isaacs improved to 6-0 on the weekend with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles to pace five singles triumphs for the Dukes on the day. Rodriguez (6-2, 7-5), Masciloi (6-0, 6-2), Conron (1-6, 6-4, 10-8) and Joey Matthews (7-6, 7-6) also notched wins in singles action for Duquesne.
