PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University head men's basketball coach
Keith Dambrot announced today that guards Ashton Miller (Scotch Plains, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Evan Buckley (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) have signed National Letters of Intent, making them the second and third members of the 2019-20 recruiting class.
Miller, who scored 991 of his 1,220 career points over his final two seasons, averaged 20.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game for a Seton Hill Prep team that rallied from a 7-6 start to finish 19-8 this past season.
A third team all-state pick, Miller saved his best for last, averaging 25.8 points per game in five Essex County and North Jersey Non-Public A tournament games.
He finished his career as the tenth-leading scorer in Seton Hall Prep history with 1,220 points.
"Ashton has a tremendous upside," said Dambrot. "At 6-5 he has a long wingspan to go along with good ballhandling and shooting skills. He has the ability to play and defend multiple positions. Ashton comes from a high-level program at Seton Hall Prep, which should help in his adjustment to the college game."
Buckley, named Virginia High School League class 5 second team all-state, finished his career as the Stone Bridge school record holder for career points (1,467) and assists (156). The 6-1 point guard, who averaged 22.5 points and 8.0 assists per game as a senior, played a role in 75 percent of the Bulldogs field goals - via either made field goal or assist - over his final two seasons.
"Evan is an old school, pass-first point guard with good toughness and strength," said Dambrot. "He is a relentless competitor with a culture-changing type of work ethic. His high school coach, Corey Stitzel, has coached at the Division I level and I really think that has helped Evan develop as a player."
Miller and Buckley join 6-5 swingman Maceo Austin (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic), a consensus 3-star recruit who signed with Duquesne in November, as members of the 2019-20 recruiting class. The trio will be joined by 6-11 center
James Ellis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse), a first team Pennsylvania class 3A all-state pick, who sat out last season.
