Farwell Named All-American for Second Time

Duquesne sophomore earns spot on second team

PITTSBURGH – Sophomore Olivia Farwell (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) was named Second Team All-American by the National Tenpin Coaches Association at the annual NCAA Bowling Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship in Wickliffe, Ohio Wednesday night. It is the second consecutive year that Elizabethtown, Pa. native has earned All-American honors.

Last year, Farwell became just the second freshman in school history to earn All-American honors in any sport - joining women's basketball player Korie Hlede (1995-98) - when she was an NCTA honorable mention pick.

Farwell, the 2018-19 Northeast Conference Bowler of the Year, is the only sophomore on either the First or Second teams. The 2018-19 NTCA All-American Team consists of three five-woman teams and ten honorable mention selections.

"Liv's a competitor, so after last year when she was named honorable mention, it was like 'well ok what's next? first or second team?,' said Duquesne head coach Jody Fetterhoff. "That's just the belief we both have to have in order for those kind of things to happen."

"She's one of two underclassmen on the first two teams, which is a huge honor, but ultimately she just wants to do everything in her power to help the team be successful. The fact that our season is still going and next week both she and the team will get a chance to compete for a National Championship, shows you what kind of impact she has had on this program."

Farwell earned NEC Bowler of the Week honors a conference-high five times on the way to helping the third-year Duquesne program to a No. 20 ranking in the current NTCA Top 25.

Farwell, who posted a pair of Top 5 individual finishes, is ranked ninth nationally with a 91.66 percent player composite performance index (PCPI). The PCPI is a measure that combines the identified categories "percentage of competitors that a bowler has outperformed" within that category. Her 20.304 overall average per frame and 50.4 overall strike percentage both rank seventh nationally.

Duquesne completes the season April 17-20 at the ITC Championship in Dayton, Ohio. Farwell, who finished third at the Addison, Ill. sectional qualifier, is one of 24 bowlers who will be competing for individual honors. The Duquesne team, which placed third is Addison, is one of 16 who will compete for the team title.
