BRONX, N.Y. – Three straight 3-pointers midway through the 2
nd quarter put Fordham ahead for good and lifted them to a 57-46 victory over Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The game was broadcast nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
The Dukes (11-10, 5-3 A-10) were led by
Chassidy Omogrosso who scored 15 points.
Libby Bazelak added 10 and nine rebounds.
Fordham (14-8, 6-3 A-10) was led by Lauren Holden, Kendell Heremaia and Mary Goulding with 15, 14 and 12 points respectively.
After Kaitlyn Downey's layup tied the score at 13-13 with 2:59 in the 1
st quarter, the Dukes' defense clamped down in the Rams, not allowing a point the rest of the quester, taking a 17-13 lead after the game's first 10 minutes.
Fordham scored the first five points of the 2
nd quarter to take an 18-17 lead. Omogrosso followed by scoring five straight points, but the combo of Holden, Goulding and Heremaia each hit from downtown to put the Rams up for good.
Duquesne would make it a one possession game early in the 3
rd quarter, but the Dukes had a three minute scoreless stretch which gave the Rams a double-figure lead at 42-32 with 3:49 remaining.
The Fordham lead would get a high at 17 points.
