Dukes Complete Season Sweep of Hawks

Vojinovic scores 20 off the bench in 67-56 win

PHILADELPHIA – Julijana Vojinovic scored 20 points off the bench to lead Duquesne to a 67-56 victory over Saint Joseph's at Hagan Arena on Wednesday night. The Dukes (14-12, 8-5 A-10) complete the season sweep over the Hawks (10-16, 6-7 A-10) for the first time ever.
 
Conor Richardson added a season-high 12 points and Libby Bazelak 10 while Halle Bovell pulled down a career-tying eight rebounds in the win in which the Dukes never trailed.
 
SJU was led by Kristalyn Baisden who scored a game-high 20 points.
 
Duquesne came out of the gates by scoring a pair of baskets in the first 22 seconds and would build a 10-point lead at 3:25 of the 1st quarter on Vojinovic's floating bank shot. Paige Cannon's jumper put the Dukes ahead 22-11 at the end of the quarter.
 
The Dukes kept the momentum up in the 2nd quarter. Duquesne got their largest lead of the game on a 3-pointer from Vojinovic at 1:53 doubled-up the score at 36-18. Whisper Fisher closed out the first half scoring with a layup to send the game into halftime with the Dukes ahead by 16 points.
 
Saint Joseph's started the 3rd quarter on a 7-0 run to make the score 36-27 and ended on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 45-38.
 
The Hawks would get within seven points two times in the 4th quarter, the last coming at 4:08 which made the score 54-47. Duquesne's defense held SJU to just two field goals the rest of the way.

  • Vojinovic was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line
  • Kadri-Ann Lass has tied Kathy Ridilla for 12th place on Duquesne's all-time scoring list with 1,312 points
  • Duquesne held Saint Joseph's leading scorer Alyssa Monaghan (14.0 ppg) to five points on 1-of-8 shooting
  • DUQ outscored SJU in the paint 34-20
  • The Dukes have won two straight at Hagan Arena for the first time in program history
