GENEVA, Ohio - The Duquesne women's swimming and diving team will look to repeat as Atlantic 10 champions at the 2019 A-10 Championship meet this Wednesday, Feb. 20 through Sunday, Feb. 23 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
- The Dukes are coming off their first A-10 title in school history in 2018, recording a program-record 567 points at last year's championship, topping second-place Richmond by nine points.
- Duquesne head coach
David Sheets was named the A-10 Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the second time in his career in 2018 after guiding the Dukes to their first A-10 title.
- All told, Duquesne came away with 13 medal-winning performances at the meet, including eight individual medals earned by returners this season:
- Brinton was named the A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer as a freshman at last year's meet. Brinton recorded a pair of gold-medal finishes in the 200 IM and 400 IM with school-record times.
- In total, nine school records fell at last season's championship meet.
- The Duquesne senior class has compiled a combined 16 medals at the A-10 championship over the last three years, highlighted by five medals apiece by Stauffer and
Kristen McKnight.
- The Dukes' diving program was reinstated prior to last season led by head coach
Charlie Hauser.
Adrienne White was named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice this season while
Sawyer Weitzel earned A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades in the final week of the season after setting a new school record in the 3-meter dive (265.30).
- The Dukes were selected to repeat as A-10 champions in the conference preseason coaches poll.
- Duquesne owns eight top-three times heading into this weekend's championship:
- Duquesne posted back-to-back second-place finishes in 2016 and '17.
