NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Duquesne diver
Sawyer Weitzel (Celina, Ohio / Celina) was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week following a school-record showing over the weekend, conference officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Weitzel set a new school record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 265.30 at the Rich Sentner Dive Invitational hosted by Westminster College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. She posted a second-place mark in the event to go with a fourth-place performance in the 1-meter boards with a personal record score of 244.60.
She is the second Duquesne diver to garner A-10 Rookie of the Week laurels this season as
Adrienne White (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) won the award on Oct. 16 and again on Oct. 23.
The Dukes' swimming and diving team will look to defend its conference title at the 2018-19 A-10 Championship on Feb. 20-23 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
