NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Duquesne sophomore midfielder
Michaela Connolly (Sykesville, Md. / Century) garnered Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors for her performance in the Dukes' 22-9 win over Longwood in the season opener, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.
Connolly registered a career-high six points in Duquesne's victory over the Lancers, helping first-year head coach
Corinne Desrosiers pick up her first victory with the program. The sophomore recorded her first career hat trick on just three shot attempts in the triumph. After pacing the Dukes in assists during her freshman campaign in 2018, she tied a career best with three assists on Sunday and added a team-high six ground balls in the winning effort.Â
Connolly becomes the first Duquesne player to earn A-10 Player of the Week accolades since
Jill Vacanti was named A-10 Co-Player of the Week on April 4, 2016 and collects the first outright Player of the Week nod since
Amanda Kidder on March 11, 2014.
Davidson's Delaney Guhman was named Defensive Player of the Week while George Mason's Deanna Balsama was named Rookie of the Week.
Connolly and the Dukes are back in action on Thursday afternoon on the road at Butler at 3 p.m. ET.
