PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Classic on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Dukes are slated to compete against George Mason, La Salle, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.
Saturday's events get underway at 11 a.m. and Sunday's action is set to begin at 9 a.m.Â
The Dukes - winners of two straight A-10 titles - make their return to SPIRE Institute, the site of the A-10 Championship. Â
Duquesne had last weekend off following the Richmond Duals on Oct. 18-19, where the Dukes split a pair of dual meets. Duquesne fell to the host Spiders on Friday before topping George Mason by a score of 149-144 on the second day of competition. The Dukes posted seven first-place marks in the win over the Patriots, paced by two each from freshmen
Emma Menzer (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) and
Sidney O'Donnell (Solon, Ohio / Solon). Menzer won both the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:56.99) and 400-yard IM (4:36.47) while O'Donnell finished first in the 1-meter (248.15) and 3-meter (247.90) dives.
This was the Dukes' second meet of the year after opening the 2019-20 campaign at a long course meters meet hosted by Pitt.
Duquesne owns two top times in the A-10 through the first month of the season, including
Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio / Rocky River)Â in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.2) and
Cateri Christinis (Charleroi, Pa. / Oakland Catholic)Â in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:45.01)
The Dukes recorded a 3-1 mark at last year's A-10 Classic and have posted a 17-1 mark at the event since the beginning of the 2013 campaign.
The A-10 Championship is set for Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 22 at SPIRE.
