RICHMOND, Va. - The Duquesne swimming and diving team closed out day two of competition at the Richmond Duals with a 149-144 victory over George Mason.
The Dukes posted seven first-place marks on the day, led by two apiece from freshmen
Emma Menzer (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter)Â and
Sidney O'Donnell (Solon, Ohio / Solon). Menzer paced both the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:56.99) and 400-yard IM (4:36.47) while O'Donnell placed first in the 1-meter (248.15) and 3-meter (247.90) dives.
Sophia Perez (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) and
Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) each won an event for the second-straight day, as Perez paced the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.84) and Brinton the  200-yard breaststroke (2:27.62).
Carson Gross (York, Pa. / York Suburban) placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.19) for Duquesne.
Head coach
David Sheets: "The meets this weekend really gave us a gauge of where we are as a team. Our upperclassmen and divers did what they needed to do to keep us competitive but our freshmen swimmers are still learning what it means to consistently compete in the college environment. The positive is they have a lot of room to grow and are willing to work at getting better."
Head diving coach Charlie Hauser: "In our first competition with conference members this season the divers performed very well. The first day was decent but everyone seemed to have some jitters. On the second day, however, everyone looked more settled and stepped up their game. The goal now is to continually compete at that level."
