INDIANAPOLIS - Duquesne University Associate Athletic Director / Sport and Facilities Operations
Michael Scerbo has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee, the organization recently announced. His term with the six-member committee begins immediately and will run through Aug. 2022.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve the game of women's lacrosse through the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee," Scerbo said. "Having spent over two decades coaching this wonderful game, I am humbled to join an outstanding group of professionals advancing the game for future student-athletes and coaches."
The committee is responsible for selecting and seeding the field for the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Tournament with other direct oversight responsibilities for the championship as well as the sport of Division I Women's Lacrosse.
The NCAA governance structure consists of legislative bodies – made up of volunteers from member schools – that govern each division, as well as a group of committees that set association-wide policy. These committees manage topics affecting sports rules, championships, health and safety and matters impacting women in athletics and opportunities for minorities. Scerbo joins three other members of school administrations on the NCAA Division I Lacrosse Committee as well as a pair of head coaches.
Scerbo served as head coach of the Duquesne lacrosse team for 11 seasons before making an intradepartmental move to the administration team in 2016. The winningest coach in program history, he posted a record of 109-82 and led the Dukes to six straight Atlantic 10 Championship appearances in his final six seasons at the helm.
Prior to his tenure at Duquesne, he worked as an assistant coach at Ohio State for four seasons where he helped the Buckeyes to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances and a conference title in 2003. This followed five years as head coach at Limestone University, where he was the first head coach in program history and led the Saints to a top ten ranking in NCAA Division II from 1998-01. Before Limestone, the Fulton, N.Y. native spent a season as an assistant coach at his alma mater SUNY-Oswego where he helped the Lakers to a 9-2 ledger.
The NCAA is a membership-driven association and is governed by more than 150 committees with almost 1,500 committee members from NCAA institutions and conferences. Association-wide committees are comprised of individuals from all three divisions and consider issues that affect the NCAA across all divisions. In addition, each division has a committee structure in place that addresses issues from a divisional perspective.
